Building with a Legacy: The General Harrison, a gold rush ship, lies buried beneath Club Quarters in San Francisco. Built in Massachusetts, the 409 ton triple masted ship sailed around Cape Horn to San Francisco Bay where it was abandoned in 1850 by the passengers and crew seeking gold. It burned to the water line in the first great fire in 1851 and was buried in waterfront landfill. It was not seen again until the week of September 8, 2001 when construction was underway to build Club Quarters. 40 feet of the General Harrison’s oak hull lies underneath the hotel. The sidewalk and exterior artwork were designed to commemorate the site.
California Green Lodging Program: Club Quarters in San Francisco has been certified as a "Green Hotel" by the California Department of General Services for its implementation of Green policies and the commitment to reduce waste, save on energy, water and California’s other valuable resources.
